Issue Four Theme: We are pleased to announce we are accepting submissions for the fourth issue of Claudius Speaks!
For Issue IV, we are in flight.
Is it gravity not so much defied as dismissed, forgetting how to fall, or plummeting up?
Is it migration, the long train of people carrying their belongings and memories and children away?
Is it running, running, running, until the heart pulls itself away and the body buckles, joyfully spent?
Is it just the easiest way to get around, even with the tiny bottles and uncomfortable seating?
Is it cowardice in the heat of battle, panic loosening the legs?
Is it movement anywhere, by any means, dignified or not, as long as it is not here, not now, not this?
Is it amnesia as the price of survival?
Is it the empire of air, another realm entirely, home to angels and their demons, the fluid geology of cloudform, the substance of things believed?
Is it escape, and bearing a message you alone survived to tell?
Is it hope, pushing a heavy contraption you dreamed up off the roof?
Is it laughter to split the earth and spite the grave?
Is it nostalgia for the cage when freedom condemns us to answer for ourselves?
Fly. Fly, you fools.
Non Fiction: We seek powerful, beautifully written, non-fiction pieces (essay, creative non-fiction, experimental) from new voices. There is no length restriction on content, but we ask that your piece be submitted in its most complete, edited, and proofread form.
Poetry: Poems cannot exceed 20 lines. Each submission may have a maximum of 3 poems. The poems should be contained in a single file and the submission should showcase your best work. We accept submissions of all poetic forms and genres but do not accept translations.
Art: Visual images capture narrative nuances that awaken the spirit and touch the heart. We seek paintings, illustrations and photographs that move us with their beauty and perspective. There are no restrictions on style or content, we only ask that you submit your best work.
