Matthew Caldwell: Editorm_caldwell_cartoon

Matthew Caldwell is not so much a person as a collection of habits retained in careful defiance of common sense. Reading was the most time-consuming of them, so after a foray as a classical musician and a college degree it was much easier to call “English” than its actual name, he began tutoring and copyediting under his own aegis. His experience to date has been primarily with children, literacy efforts, and children’s authors; while he enjoys working with children, the difficulties of generating interest in German Idealists among 10 year olds has motivated him to pursue work with authors. Left to his own devices, he spends most of his time learning old languages to get closer to his favorite books and staining his fingers with ink as a calligrapher.
