Artist’s Statement: This piece was inspired by “The Catcher in the Rye.” The title of the artwork comes from a quote from the book, “I can’t explain what I mean. And even if I could, I’m not sure I’d feel like it.” This quote really resonated with me because I’ve often felt I identify with the main character – so many thoughts running through my mind. In this piece, the theme “Fever” is represented as burning passion or burning thoughts – so prominent that they can no longer be contained. Like Holden Caulfield, the subject of the piece has so much on her mind that it would be nearly impossible to explain it all. However, her thoughts spill out and begin to fill her with colors – allowing her to express herself, even if in an unconventional way. The muddled and colorful hair appears to resemble a flame, because these thoughts and/or passions can fill you to the brim and have the potential to ignite something special.
