Untitled – Rebecca van Dyke

The flicker of the candle
A flame spinning and bright
In each rhythm, redemption
From afar a longing
Desire for freedom insufferable and sweet
Up close, the layers begin to curl

Extinguished by the hand of safety,
smoke that smells of fear.

About the Author: “This is my first publication. I am thirty-one years old, have a Master’s degree in mental health counseling and have been working in the field of addiction for many years. Through my time there, I have seen humanity in it’s most desperate and raw form. I began writing one year ago to process these hardships, as well as my own personal hardship. I fell in love and am thrilled to be able to share my experiences in a creative way, bringing some beauty to the pain.”
