A Darkness No Light Could Know – Linda Crate

In that harrowing heartbeat

of light

I was told of all your lies,

and I wish

I could forget everything;

the mermaids in your eyes were

nothing but sirens

seeking to steal the light of my soul

because even the flickering

candlelight evaded your

eager tongue.
